KB-51116: Error 80004005 when acknowledging alarm at runtime.

Question:

When a certain alarm is acknowledged, the following error message is displayed:

Why does this happen? How can I work around this?

Solution:

There are quite a few causes for this error when acknowledging alarms. They can happen whenever the alarm is neither active nor found during acknowledgement. For example:

  • When the alarm is deleted;
  • When the alarm is deactivated via scripts (Deactivate);
  • When the alarm and the Alarm Server are in different projects, and the project containing the alarm is disabled (in maintenance). In this case, it will be enough for the project to leave maintenance mode;
  • When the application has two servers (hot-standby) with different versions of the files, and in one of these versions the alarm either does not exist or is deactivated.

Once the problem has been identified, just take the right precautions so that this problem will not happen again.
