Which driver can I use to communicate with S7-200/S7-300/S7-400/S7-1200 PLCs?
Solution:
Elipse Software has developed several I/O drivers for Siemens devices, and the most widely used with S7 series is M-Prot driver. This driver can communicate with several protocols, and the PLC must be set up accordingly. Below there is a reference table for M-Prot protocols.

- Adapters via USB interface (Siemens PPI-MPI/PC cable) are not supported by M-Prot driver.
- Different combinations can eventually be contemplated. The ones presented in this article are the most common ones, though.
- They can also be linked with hardware that is not produces by Siemens. M-Prot’s help presents a few possibilities. However, the user must research the subject before associating with unknown hardware.
- ISO-TCP protocol can also be called ISO over TCP, RFC1006, or S7-TCP/IP.
