Communication between E3 or Elipse SCADA and a Profibus network.

To establish communication between Elipse’s supervisory systems and a Profibus network, there are currently three possibilities:

1) Use a Siemens S7Functions driver, which will communicate with all networks supported by Siemens’ devices via 5611 and 5613 PCI cards, including Profibus network.

2) Use a PCI card by Applicom, which will communicate with a Profibus network, and offer an OPC server for communicating with the supervisory.

3) Use only controllers to communicate, with no communication with Profibus network.  If this is possible, E3 or Elipse SCADA will communicate with the controllers via another communication port, implementing another protocol. For example, if you are using a Siemens S7-300 controller, you can use a Siemens MProt driver, which communicates with the PLC via MPI. This PLC, in turn, communicates with the Profibus network through a specific interface. In this case, the settings of the means of communication will vary according to the PLC’s protocol.
