SSMA is a tool provided by Microsoft that converts Access database objects into SQL Server objects, loads these objects into SQL Server, and then migrates data.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pre-requisites<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For this article, the following items are required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>.Net Framework Version 2.0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/downloads\/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&#038;displaylang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server 2005 (Express, Standard, Enterprise) installed (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/sql\/downloads\/default.mspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>MS Access (2000, 2002, 2003) &#8211; migrating file<\/li>\n<li>MS Visual J# Version 2.0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/downloads\/details.aspx?familyid=F72C74B3-ED0E-4AF8-AE63-2F0E42501BE1&#038;displaylang=en\">download<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=54255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><\/p>\n<p>Creating a database on SQL Server 2005<\/b><\/p>\n<p>First, a new database will be created in the SQL Server, which will receive the objects migrating from Access database.<\/p>\n<p>1. Connect to SQL Server:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura1.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"308\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>2. Right-click on <b>Databases <\/b>and select <b>New Database<\/b> option.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura2.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"254\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>3 In <b>Database Name<\/b>, type a name for the new database and click <b>OK<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Installing the SQL Server Migration Assistant<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. After downloading and executing the SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA), this window will be displayed:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura3.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>2. On the wizard&#8217;s welcome screen, click <b>Next<\/b>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura4.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>3. The license agreement terms will be displayed; check the box and click <b>Next<\/b>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura5.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>4. This screen will ask you to send automatic reports to Microsoft about the software; this item is optional.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura6.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>5. On this screen, select <b>Typical<\/b>. Click <b>Install <\/b>on the next screen:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura7.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>6. Next, the installation status will be displayed; and successful, the Installation Complete window will also be displayed:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura8.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura9.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"387\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p><b>Running the SSMA Application<\/b><\/p>\n<p>After installing and running the wizard, you will be asked to register (for free) on the Microsoft website.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE<\/b>: This registration is mandatory, because this is how you will receive the file with the license to use it. This file will be sent by Microsoft to the registered e-mail, named Access-ssma.license, and it will be required the first time you run the application.<\/p>\n<p>1. After registering and getting the license, run the wizard again and the next window will be displayed:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura10.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>On this window, you will see the steps for migrating from the Access database to the SQL Server.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE<\/b>: This window may also be opened when running the wizard by clicking on <b>Migration Wizard<\/b> on the toolbar.<\/p>\n<p>2. Click <b>Next<\/b>; a window will be displayed for typing the project&#8217;s name and location:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura11.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>3. On this window, select the Access database that will migrate to SQL Server.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura12.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>4. After selecting the Access database (file with an .MDB extension), click <b>Next <\/b>to access the following screen, where you will see all the selected database objects, like tables, primary keys, etc.:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura13.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>5. On the next window, the SQL Server server&#8217;s name, user, and password will be prompted to connect the wizard to the SQL Server and then to select the destination database (created on the beginning of this article) in the <b>Database <\/b>item.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura14.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>6. Click <b>Next <\/b>to start the migration process. You can follow the operation progress on wizard&#8217;s lower panel:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID89\/Figura15.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"156\" align=\"Baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<p>7.
