Oracle&#8217;s 10g version is used here to illustrate the process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Configuring Oracle Client<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before you start setting up the Oracle client, first check a few points with the database administrator, which are:<\/p><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<ul>\n<li>Name of the Oracle service in the network (throughout this article, this will be referred to as <b>elipse.elipse.com.br<\/b>).<\/li>\n<li>Name of the machine where this service is running (throughout this article, this will be referred to as <b>test<\/b>).<\/li>\n<li>Oracle&#8217;s default port (in this case, <b>1521<\/b>).<\/li>\n<li>User and password to log in the database.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: For the proper working of the connection, it is necessary for some ports between client and server are open. Default port is 1521, but after the connection had been established, some other ports can be used.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Step by step<\/strong>:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>1) Access Net Configuration Assistant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture1.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"161\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<div align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 1<\/b>: Net Configuration Assistant, at Windows Start menu<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p>2) A screen is open; on it, select the option <b>Local Net Service Name configuration<\/b>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture2.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 2<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>3) Click <b>Next<\/b>; then, select the option <b>Add <\/b>to add a service.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture3.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 3<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>4) Next, you will configure the service&#8217;s name. This should be the same name as the one configured in the previously installed database.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture4.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 4<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>5) Then, chose the protocol for accessing the database.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture5.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 5<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>6) On the next screen, you will configure the name of the computer where the database is (in the example, test), and the default access port (in the example, 1521).<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture6.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 6<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>7) The next step is testing the connection.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture7.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<b><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Figure 7<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<p>8) If all configurations were made appropriately, the following screen is shown.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture8.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 8<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>In case a screen is displayed informing you it has not been possible to connect to the server, check the login and password to see if they were correctly informed.<\/p>\n<p>9) The next screen supplies the <strong>Net Service Name<\/strong>, that is, the name of the connection used by the applications to access the database through this client. <strong>This is the name to be used when configuring E3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture9.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 9<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p>10) FINISHED! With all these steps, you have successfully configured Oracle client.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Setting up an E3 application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After having configured Oracle client, you will have to configure your E3 application to access the database&#8217;s server through this client.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Step by step<\/strong>:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>1) First, open the application, and add a DataServer object to it. To do so, you must right-click on the project, and then select the option <strong>Insert\u2014Database<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>2) Once the database is inserted, it must be configured. To do so, you must access the object&#8217;s properties.<\/p>\n<p>3) Configure the following items on Database&#8217;s properties screen:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <b>Database<\/b>: indicates the type of database being used. Choose <b>1 \u2013 stOracle<\/b>.<br \/>\n\u2022 <b>Connection<\/b>: Name of the Net Service Name (previously configured). In this example, the value is &#8216;<strong>elipse<\/strong>&#8216;.<br \/>\n\u2022 <b>Use TIMESTAMP type<\/b> and <b>Use ADO Oracle drivers<\/b>: these options must be checked when you use Date\/Hour information with precision of milliseconds (TIMESTAMP); further information can be found at E3&#8217;s <strong>User&#8217;s Manual<\/strong>.<br \/>\n\u2022 <b>User <\/b>and <b>password<\/b>: fill these fields with the information received by the database&#8217;s administrator.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/images\/ID85\/Picture10.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"280\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure10<\/b>: Database&#8217;s properties<\/span><\/div>\n<p>4) Press the button <b>Test Connection<\/b>; if the database was correctly configured, a window will be displayed to confirm a successful operation.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/kb.elipse.com.br\/pt-br\/images\/ID85\/11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"355\" height=\"161\" align=\"baseline\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Figure 11<\/b>: Connection Test<\/span><\/div>\n<p>5) FINISHED!
